SZN is a public research institution operated by the Italian Ministry of Research and Education (MIUR). It hosts 135 permanent staff, including researchers, post-docs, technicians and PhD students. It is focussed on integrating molecular genetic and genomic techniques with fundamental marine biological research, to explore the cellular and tissue functions of marine model species, the ecology and lifestyles of marine organisms, their roles in ecosystem functioning, and their possible applications in blue biotechnologies.
SZN is the Italian partner in ASSEMBLE Plus. Additional Italian access services are offered by

SZN will offer transnational access (TA), will lead NA1 and will contribute to NA3, NA4, JRA1, JRA3 and JRA4.
